At 100 meters of height, Shadows was activated on the facade of Sao Paulo’s iconic FIESP building on Paulista Avenue, the city’s busiest thoroughfare, engaging passersby with its monumental scale and intuitive, playful interaction. Shadows was part of the digital urban art exhibition “Brazil-Germany: Connected Cultures”, curated by Verve Cultural (Brazil) and the Public Art Lab (Germany), with cultural support from the Goethe Institute.
It was amazing for me to developed the software that runs on this huge screen. One piece of software connected with kinect scans a person on one side of the avenue and sends it to another piece of software running inside the building to display the generative image.
A challenge was to discover how to compress the kinect image, as the wifi used experienced a disturbance from the street and couldn’t send too much data.
